Birch plywood has many properties that make it an ideal choice for the average home builder or carpenter. Its light color and smooth texture please those interested in aesthetics, while plywood’s strength and durability allow amateur carpenters to create masterpieces with ease.

Unlike MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), which is made from smaller materials, birch plywood uses layers of birch veneer sandwiched together with resin, usually at right angles to the layers above or below (also called cross-bonding); thus achieving a feature that has no void core and higher strength products.
Due to its smooth, light-colored surface, products made from birch plywood have a beautiful luster and the untreated surface looks just as good as the painted one.
Why do we use it?
Birch is a fast-growing tree native to northeastern Europe. Their abundance and growth rate means that when they are felled, there is minimal impact or damage to biodiversity, making birch plywood an excellent choice for sustainably sourced wood with little impact on the environment, especially from 100% Wood comes from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified sources.

Another advantage of using sustainable birch plywood is that, in addition to a thicker and attractive finish, you can leave the edges exposed. Since there are no voids in the core, the exposed edges when cut give a unique character to the birch plywood furniture we design, eliminating the need for edge tape or solid edge strips typically found in MDF for children’s furniture or other products. This is important.
Features of 100% birch plywood:
1) Professional production, up to 35 production processes
2) Directly import birch veneer from Russia, selected birch veneer
3) In-depth knowledge of high-grade 100% birch plywood, equivalent to top birch plywood manufacturers in Russia and Finland
4) E0 grade glue, almost no formaldehyde release, healthy and responsible for nature and society
5) Professionally graded for different applications, just depends on your usage
6) Brand new and advanced plywood machinery and equipment to ensure accurate production requirements and fast efficiency.
Birch plywood can be made waterproof or water-resistant depending on how it is made and treated. The glue used in its construction plays an important role in making it waterproof. Exterior-grade plywood is more likely to be waterproof than interior-grade plywood because of its higher glue content and more durable face and core veneers. However, even waterproof birch plywood can still be damaged by prolonged exposure to water, so it’s important to use proper sealing and maintenance to ensure its longevity. Nonetheless, birch plywood’s ability to resist water makes it a versatile material with a wide range of applications in the construction, marine and furniture industries.
Why do we recommend birch plywood over MDF or regular plywood?
1.MDF is heavier
Birch plywood is very dense compared to regular plywood because the layers used are thinner and all of the layers are birch hardwood. MDF, on the other hand, although denser than birch plywood, is still particleboard (essentially compressed sawdust), but is heavier and therefore difficult to handle.
2)MDF is not as strong as birch plywood
MDF is also a softer material than birch plywood and can easily sag or crack under pressure. Not suitable for our range of load-bearing children’s furniture, which includes wooden children’s tables, wooden children’s chairs, storage bins and more.

3)MDF does not handle exposure to water and changes in temperature and humidity well.
Compared to MDF, birch plywood does not expand, shrink or warp even under extreme changes in temperature and humidity, and does not absorb water like MDF, making it less susceptible to damage.
4)MDF generates a lot of dust
The safety of our workers and crew is always a top priority, and due to its construction, MDF produces significantly more sawdust when cut than plywood. This makes it less suitable for our team to come into contact with it on a regular basis, even when working in well-ventilated areas wearing protective masks.

5)MDF doesn’t work well with screws
Birch plywood holds screws securely compared to MDF or regular plywood because it is made up of denser layers, and each layer holds screws better.
Here at Ronsun we take great pride in designing and manufacturing our range of birch plywood children’s furniture and hope this little blog clears some of the questions and concerns you may have in your mind.
