Multi layer board, particle board, density board, solid wood finger board, etc., containing a certain proportion of solid wood, merchants can advertise their products as “solid wood”. Today we are going to introduce some tips for choosing solid wood bed.
1. Wood for solid wood beds
The wood of solid wood beds can be divided into 5 grades based on their quality:
1)Top: International mahogany, Myanmar teak, North American black walnut;
2)Advanced: North American cherry wood, North American white oak, North American white wax wood, ebony (small zebra), North American hard maple;
3)Intermediate: Ash, elm, oak, beech, American boxwood (commonly used to impersonate North American cherry wood);
4)General: Rubber wood, South American walnut wood;
5)Auxiliary materials: willow eucalyptus wood, pine wood
Redwood, black walnut, and teak are expensive, resulting in low cost-effectiveness. Ash and beech wood have low costs, but are prone to cracking and deformation when dry. Stable and high-quality North American cherry wood and white oak have become the mainstream solid wood bed wood in the current market.

2. Grade of wood
When searching for solid wood beds, many brands mention that their wood is SUP grade. So what is the SUP level? SUP is the highest grade of wood in North America, based on the NHLA rules, which have been the national standard for the hardwood industry in the United States and have served as the grading basis for exported boards for over a hundred years.
To produce wood as a product, the board needs to be sawn into blocks. The larger the size and quantity of blocks that can be divided, the higher the grade. In the NHLA rules, the ranking from high to low is: SUP level>FAS level>FAS single sided>special level>ordinary level 1>ordinary level 2.

3.Key points for purchasing solid wood beds
1) Optimal selection of headboard and direct assembly of large board
This process utilizes the stress between the wood, making it more solid and firm, less prone to cracking than the entire board, and much less adhesive used than the finger joint board. It can retain the beautiful and smooth texture of wood, and is also more durable. When the budget is sufficient, priority should be given to wide boards, with a width between 8-12cm. The requirements for wood are stricter, the texture is more beautiful, and the process is better tactile.
The fewer pieces of the headboard, the better, usually 4 to 10 pieces. At the same time, it is also necessary to consider the height of the headboard, usually between 40 and 50 centimeters.
A headboard with a height of 40 centimeters requires 4 pieces to be assembled, but in fact, 3 pieces are not considered too good.

2)Bed planking
In addition to the main body of the solid wood bed, the material and design of the bed board are also important. When I toss and turn in the middle of the night, I feel like turning over and creaking, which I can’t bear! The common materials for bed planks are mainly beech and pine wood. Beech wood has higher hardness, finer texture, no odor, and is more expensive; Pine wood has a lower density, is more loose, and is relatively more affordable. Pine wood generally has a pine oil flavor. If you particularly prefer pine wood, you can find Finnish pine or New Zealand pine, which has a relatively light pine oil flavor. The width, thickness, and spacing of the bed board are important factors that determine the strength of the bed structure. The wider and thicker the bed board, the stronger it becomes, while the thinner and thinner it becomes, the easier it is to bend and deform; If the gap is too large, the spring of the mattress part will fall; If the gap is too small or there is no gap, it will affect the breathability of the bed board. If it is an independent spring mattress, it is recommended to choose a bed mat with a gap of less than 2cm, which is more friendly to the mattress and can even directly lay a cool mat for sleeping. The planking is lower than the side panel, which can reserve space for the mattress, making it more secure and less prone to sliding or shifting.

3) Bedside
The headboard of the bed is preferably made of large boards that are directly assembled, making it more sturdy and durable. The wide board is superior to the narrow board, with complete patterns, natural connection, and high appearance. Pay attention to whether there is a humanized design, such as whether it can be comfortably reclined, whether it can be adjusted in height, whether there is a design for convenient storage, as well as more differentiated touch sensing light strips and embedded socket designs.
4) Bed foot
The bed legs should be solid and load-bearing, so the material should be sturdy and sturdy enough; Many people say that the more legs a bed has, the better, but in fact, the opposite is true. The more legs a bed has, the worse the material used for the bed. A truly good solid wood bed has four legs.
